Who We Are:Dublin Community Bands is a community arts organization established in 2010. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity, DCB is governed by a Board of Directors and provides a musical home for more than 200 local performers in six distinctive ensembles.

Dublin Cornet Band |
The original Dublin Cornet Band was founded in 1879 and represented Dublin as it toured around central Ohio for over 50 years. In 2010, through the vision and dedication of the Dublin Historical Society and generosity of the Dublin Community Foundation, this significant piece of Dublin’s heritage was resurrected for the City’s Bicentennial Celebration. This recreation of the Dublin Cornet Band has brought together a group of thirteen local professional-level, volunteer musicians dedicated to preserving an important connection to Dublin’s past.

Dublin Metro Brass |
The Dublin Metro Brass completed its successful inaugural season in April of 2019. Metro Brass is a British-style Brass Band that was formed with the intention of merging the “community band” and “competition band” experiences, preparing for competition in a less intensive atmosphere. As the group has grown and taken on new membership, the DMB performance season has expanded from its original 4-month trial up to its current year-round schedule.

Dublin Silver Band |
The Dublin Silver Band began in 2008 as the Ohio Brass Band, founded by Dr. Paul Droste and Dr. Pat Herak, and joined the Dublin Community Bands organization in 2010. A group of professional-level musicians who volunteer their time and talent, DSB maintains a regular concert season for local audiences in addition to their intense national and international competition schedule. DSB regularly represents Dublin Community Bands in the Ohio Brass Arts Festival Cup, Dublin Festival of Brass, North American Brass Band Association Championship, and the US Open Brass Band Championship, where it has won the award for “Most Entertaining Band” on seven separate occasions.

Dublin Wind Symphony |
The Dublin Wind Symphony was formed in 2011. Nearly 70 local musicians showed up for the very first rehearsal, highlighting exactly how much a group of this type was needed here in Dublin! Originally known as the Concert Band of Dublin, the name change to Dublin Wind Symphony better reflects the composition of the ensemble and the music they perform. An average DWS season brings together around 100 members of all ages and ability levels. They perform symphonic band music, marches, and popular arrangements during their regular concert season and throughout a summer concert series each year. DWS is proud to represent Dublin Community Bands performing before the 4th of July parade in downtown Dublin and the Plain City fireworks celebrations. Several small ensembles have also formed within the Dublin Wind Symphony and these groups play various gigs in venues around Central Ohio.

Dublin Youth Brass Band |
The Dublin Youth Brass Band began in 2014 with the goal of educational outreach – providing an opportunity for younger students to learn about about the traditional brass band style of music and ensemble make-up. Starting as a summer workshop experience, the DYBB added a Fall and Spring season in 2022 and continues with all three sessions currently. DYBB is a unique program that allows students to rehearse side-by-side with mentor musicians from Silver Band and Metro Brass as they learn new music (sometimes on a new instrument!).

Emerald City Swing Orchestra |
The Emerald City Swing Orchestra is a 20-piece swing/jazz band that formed in 2001 and joined the Dublin Community Bands organization in 2011. The ECSO has an extensive musical library that features classic songs from the Big Band Era such as Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington; contemporary artists such as Billy Joel and Carlos Santana; and vocal songs of classic singers like Frank Sinatra, Billy Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald.

Dublin Festival of Brass |
Four regional Brass Bands participated in the first DFOB Droste Shield Competition in 2017, with the event quickly expanding to ten competing bands by 2019. DFOB regularly draws participants from Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas. The annual event now includes a master class and lecture series as well as social opportunities for visiting groups to mingle and make music together outside of the competition setting.

Youth Solo Competitions |
Since 2019, The Dublin Community Bands has hosted an annual solo competition for woodwind, brass, and percussion students in grades 6-12. With two separate divisions for High School and Middle School, winners of each division receive a cash prize and may have the opportunity to perform their solo accompanied by one of the adult ensembles during a regular season concert.
